The cat recovery suit: the best alternative to the cone
After spaying, surgery or an injury, your vet will usually recommend protection to stop your cat from licking its wound. The Elizabethan collar (cone) is the traditional solution, but many cats tolerate it very poorly: stress, trouble eating, inability to groom normally.
The cat recovery suit is an alternative more and more vets recommend. It covers the surgical area while letting your cat move, eat and sleep normally. Less stressful, more comfortable, and often more effective because cats try less to remove it.
🏥 Post-surgery tips
Check that the wound stays clean and dry under the suit. Remove the suit to inspect the scar at least once a day. See your vet if you notice discharge, excessive redness or an unusual smell. A recovery suit does not replace veterinary follow-up.
Sweaters and clothes for cats that feel the cold
Some cats feel the cold more than others, especially short-haired or hairless breeds, kittens, senior cats and animals recovering from illness. The right sweater (or jumper) can make a real difference to their well-being in winter.
- Short-haired cats (Bengal, Devon Rex…)
- Hairless cats (Sphynx, Peterbald)
- Kittens under 6 months
- Senior cats over 12 years old
- Cats in recovery
- Poorly heated apartments in winter
How can you tell if your cat is cold?
A cold cat looks for warm spots to curl up in, shivers slightly, keeps its paws tucked under its body all the time or seems lethargic. If you notice these signs regularly in winter, a light sweater can greatly improve its comfort.
How to get your cat used to wearing clothes
As with costumes, the key is gradual steps and rewards. Start by letting your cat sniff the garment for a few days. Put it on for a few minutes while rewarding your cat with a treat. Gradually increase the time. Most cats get used to it within a week. Always respect your cat's stress signals.
Cat clothes FAQ
Does my cat really need a sweater?
It depends on breed, age and environment. Short-haired cats, Sphynx cats, kittens and senior cats clearly benefit from thermal protection in winter. A healthy adult domestic shorthair living in a heated apartment usually doesn't need one, but a light garment can still improve its comfort if it tolerates it well.
Does a recovery suit replace the cone?
In many cases yes, but always ask your vet before replacing a prescribed cone. A recovery suit is especially effective for spay scars on the belly. For wounds or surgery in areas that are hard to cover, the cone is sometimes still the better option.
How do I choose the right size?
Measure your cat's chest girth and back length (from the base of the neck to the base of the tail). Check the size chart on each product page. If you're torn between two sizes, go for the larger one: a slightly roomy garment is always more comfortable and easier to put on.
Are the clothes machine washable?
Most of our clothes are machine washable at 30°C on a delicate cycle. Check the specific washing instructions on each product page. To protect the fabric and shape, wash them inside out and avoid the tumble dryer.
How long does delivery take?
Delivery takes 10 business days on average, with tracking. Shipping is free on orders from €25 in mainland France.
